PEER BREAST FEEDING PROJECT (2004 - 2011)

Women and Family Health Initiative would like to acknowledge the tremendous work achieved by their peer breast feeding support workers over the past seven years. The workers have through their work successfully embedded breast feeding within the community, raised the statistics for the South Armagh wards and supported numerous family units.  The belief at the start of the project that the peer model of women who had breast feed their babies supporting new mothers is proven by the rise in figures and the numbers who have engaged with the workers.

Unfortunately due to lack of funding the Women and Family Health Initiative can no longer sustain the breast feeding project.  We will continue to promote breast feeding in the community and our work of supporting families in South Armagh.

Again our sincere thanks to the peer workers and we wish every success to Alice Murphy, Mary Havern, Maureen Moley, Aine Fegan and Rosemary Garvey in the future.
